It was an important day in the world of Lazy J today as we returned to the studio to start recording work our second (as yet un-named) album.
We're recording back at Raindance, the same studio as last time and we've also called on the extended Lazy J family members Nic Burrows and Chris Smith to do the engineering work again.
As we found out part way through recording the last album, we much prefer laying down the drum tracks with a live band set-up, rather than having Pip locked in a drum room for hours on end just playing through headphones so that's how we decided to do it right from that start this time.
We started uncharacteristically early this morning, with Pip getting to the studio for 7:00am to start setting up the drums in the drum room. The first major challenge was to try and get the drums to sound as close to a Gretch concert tom kit as possible. Thankfully after a little experimenting with microphone positions we managed to get the toms to resemble the famous 'Phil Collins' sound which Pip was immensely pleased with. |
